26Autochrome was an early color photography process invented and patented in 1903 by Auguste and Louis Lumière, French photographic equipment manufacturers. The Lumière brothers were also widely known as one of the first short film makers. Autochrome plates were first sold by the Lumière brothers in 1907 and remained the primary color photographic process until the mid-1930s when color film was developed. Eduards Gaiķis is considered the most famous Latvian photographer to use autochromes.
